Tooth Restoration
Problems with your teeth can ruin your smile and leave you at greater risk for dental decay and disease. Sometimes teeth become damaged due to a traumatic impact, decay, bite issues, grinding the teeth, and biting something too hard. When this occurs, we have a number of restorative choices to rebuild the tooth and make it aesthetically pleasing with your other teeth.
Restoration choices
Whether you have a tooth that is fractured, chipped, or worn down by decay, you will find that there are a number of restorative choices available to you.
- Fillings
- Crowns (caps)
- Veneers
- Bonding
Sometimes a fracture or chip can be restored through the use of bonding. This is a material that is permanently attached to the tooth to fill the missing space and is ground down and then shaped to match your other teeth. Fillings are used for repairing cavities caused by bacteria. Veneers can correct some restorative issues such as cracks and spaces between the teeth. Your dentist may suggest putting a cap, or crown, over a tooth that has experienced a great deal of decay loss in order to prevent it from becoming even more damaged. While a tooth that has been given a root canal is always given a crown, sometimes, a tooth can be capped without the necessity of performing one.
Natural color
In older pictures you often see people with gold or silver teeth but today’s dentistry technology has advanced, developing material that can actually be colored to match your teeth. This means that you will be able to have a natural smile to greet the world with and there is no reason for you to be self-conscious over your restorative work.
